  How far does the shunning go for you, by your JW parents or children?

  my dad is a jw, trying to reach out to be an elder again......also pioneering.

  i saw my cousin , his nephew , the other nite at the dance club......i told him i havent seen my dad, nor heard from him in almost 2 years.

  he said he saw him a while back but that he heard he moved.. last time i talked to my dad, it was over me not going to the circuit assembly he was trying to get me to go to.

  But it seems that some take the extreme route and write you off as dead.

  How true, and this FACT alone, proves the Watchtower is wrong, Jesus would talk to anyone, even the most evil people of the time from kings to soldiers to the poor.

  Did Jesus not say that no one should JUDGE but Jehovah, for only he knows the HEART of the person.

  How could a parent do this to someone they gave birth to. Is living forever in a paradise that important ???

  My family will talk to me on occassion (rarely), but it always ends in an argument.

  I feel that I never had a real family my whole life. I spent most of my younger years wondering How am I going to get out of this crap. When I left at 19, I was on my own, with a minimum wage job and had to fend for myself, financially and mentally, it was hard growing up alone. My family REALLY thought that I was gonna fall flat on my face and come crawling back, so they could say, "this is what happens when you leave Jehovah's organization." Well, 17 years later, I am doing better then ALL my family put together. And I know it bugs the hell out of them. They (the JW'S) think this world is such a terrible place, hey it's not perfect, but there are alot of great people out there who were never JW's about 4,000,000,000 or so maybe more.

  how can you not love it here, from serious discussions to more light hearted ones, and threads that get started by people slightly intoxicated, what more can you ask for.

  Simon will have to keep this going for a long time.

  LANDMARK DECISION - Vicki Boer vs Watchtower Society

  as most are aware, vicki boer has been long awaiting a decision to be handed down in a case she started against the society in canada.. the decision was handed down today.

  as with any 55 page decision, it will take some time for the legal experts to hash it over and decipher what was said.

  but, in a nutshell..... vicki won.

  It's a start, way to go Vicki for hanging in there, we are all cheering for you.

  The great thing about this is, when more cases come up, judges have the tendency to review similiar cases and to judge the same way, not saying that they will, but it sure will HELP.

  Having a drink for Vicki today !!!!!!!!!!!

  Were you married at the Kingdom Hall ? How bad was your wedding reception ?

  i'm just wondering...... i remember going to some wedding receptions for couples who got married at the kingdom hall,.

  and i hate to be mean but, super boring, and bad, how bad you ask ??

  ok here we go ..... - the worst had to be one couple played kingdom meolodies for their wedding dances, i couldn't believe it.. - no alcohol (i'm sure we all experienced a few of these), reception was over by 9:30.. - no music at all, just a gathering of people, and they ended the reception with a prayer, i thought i was at an assembly.. - food, like if you can't afford to get married don't, like frozen stuff bought at your local grocery store, and still in the package when you got up to the tables, how tacky.. - you could always tell a couple who couldn't afford much, when you had to drive 50 miles into the back woods to find some dinky little community hall they rented for $100.. - i remember one where the bride was pregnant, i was really surprised they allowed them to use the kingdom hall.. - another classic was, they had this band (of all jw's of course) and man they were bad.

  It would be nice if we could all meet and give Sheila a great party.

  I want to apologize for my comment,(I did apologize to Sheila by email) I should of worded it better, I was by no means trying to belittle or make fun of ANYONE. And did not want to offend ANYONE. I find this board very very very very helpful, and have met some WONDERFUL people.

  What I meant (and it didn't come out this way AT ALL!) was ............

  I noticed growiing up in the borg many many many many young people getting baptized at a very young age , 10-15 years old, as I said before, what could they possibly know about life and the temptations they will face, and to further this I noticed ALOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! of young people getting married the day or soon after they turned 18.

  1) to get out of the house

  2) so they could have sex.

  Not for the REAL reason you should get married, is the Watchtower to blame for this, not entirely, but should take some responsibility. I saw many young people getting married way way way to young, and COULD NOT afford it, heck they didn't even have one part time job between them, thus my comment.

  I think it is safe to say that Sheila / Thunder got married for the right reasons !!!!!!!!!! LOL, I am very sorry if I offended YOU and ANYONE else who reads this thread, it was NOT my intention.

  1914, how does the Watchtower calculate this ???

  okay i haven't been to a meeting in 15 years and my memory has slipped on this one, so to the best of your knowledge how does the watchtower come up with 1914.. i understand the 607 bce jerusalem thing, (which we know is wrong more like 587/586).

  i understand the gentile times / seven times thing that gives you 2520 years ( 7 x 360).

  i understand the day for a year calculation.. but the part i don't get is why only 360 days for a year and not 365 or 365.25, you can't calculate only 360 days a year through history because it would throw everything off.. hey maybe the watchtower will get "new light" on this and change it to 365 , it would give them an extra 35 years to work with ????.

  I like your comment about "why not in bookstores", isn't the idea to preach to all the inhabited world, and to try and reach everyone, ......

  so why not in bookstores

  so why not more internet sites

  so why not an internet site with all the history of every publication from 1879-2003.

  isn't the internet about information (not just porn)

  why wouldn't the Watchtower, (to quote Rutherford "Advertise, Advertise, Advertise" ),use every possible means of getting their books into people's hands who have never read a publication.
